The 7 Pillars of Inclusion
Discover 7 Pillars of Inclusion
Find out about 7 Pillars of inclusion - a new, free way of looking at inclusion that has been developed by Play by the Rules and the Australian Sports Commission that will help you with ideas and actions to support all disadvantaged and diverse groups in league.
Australia is a vibrant, multicultural and diverse country. The Census shows that Australians come from more than 200 countries, speak over 300 languages at home and belong to more than 100 different religious groups.
Rugby league is proud to represent and be a part of this. But sometimes it can be a tale of missed opportunities. If your club is not a reflection of this diversity you should be asking "why not?" and "how can I become more inclusive of everyone?".
A new way of looking at inclusion
One new way of advancing diversity and inclusion in your club is by using the 7 Pillars of Inclusion resources developed by Play by the Rules/Australian Sports Commission.
The 7 Pillars model is about giving you a ‘helicopter’ view of inclusion which looks at the common elements that contribute to creating inclusive environments that reflect the communities that we live in. The seven pillars are:
- Access
- Attitude
- Choice
- Partnerships
- Communication
- Policy
- Opportunities
These pillars can be used as the basis for knowledge and actions across all levels of rugby league, for all disadvantaged and diverse groups, thereby reducing the need for different programs and policies for each.
