NSW Government Support
The NSW government understands the importance of tackling mental health and are helping improve the lives of NSW communities by supporting State of Mind workshops
The NRL’s State of Mind program has announced its continued partnership with the NSW government.
On Tuesday 18th May 2021, the SOM team were joined by NSW government in Singleton where they announced they would be donating $280,000 to deliver the State of Mind program to communities within regional NSW.
NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro and Minister for Mental Health Bronnie Taylor were present to make this very special announcement, where they were able to experience first-hand the powerful impact that the program has on its participants.
This investment into the program will allow a total 60 workshops to be completed to a combination of junior rugby league clubs and schools. These programs have been created in conjunction with our expert partners; headspace, Lifeline, Kids Helpline & Black Dog Institute, with the aims of:
- Using the Game's reach, profile, clubs and players to help remove the stigma surrounding mental illness.
- Connecting rugby league communities (participants, fans, and volunteers) with our mental health partners and local service providers.
- Stimulating help-seeking behaviours throughout the Rugby League community by providing appropriate literature and resources.
- Educating and informing communities through an interactive face-to-face session to improve mental health literacy.

“You will be able to reach kids and young men and you women in a way that we have never been able to do” - John Barilaro
"We really love what you're doing and the NSW government wants to back you… What you're doing is making a difference and what you're doing is allowing people to talk about their mental health and that’s exactly what we want them to do." - Bronnie Taylor
