Parramatta Eels coach Brad Arthur lamented a lack of patience as the major reason behind his side's 20-4 loss to the Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park on Friday night.

Despite the Storm suffering a host of injuries, the Eels weren't able to trouble the scorers until the 77th minute.

Arthur knew why his side had endured such a testing night.

"We created some opportunities that we didn't take – you can't do that against close to the top side in the competition," he said.

"We were our own worst enemy. We needed more patience at the try line. We showed effort but we needed more patience.

"We don't need to score off every play. We needed to be more patient and build some pressure on the try line."

The Eels headed into the match having won three of the four previous Telstra Premiership games – including a rousing 40-4 win over St George Illawarra in round 22.

Eels co-captain Clint Gutherson said his side took the wrong approach when it came to making the most of the Storm being without any fit players on the bench for the latter stages of the contest.

"We played it wrong – we tried to score off every play and we needed to force repeat sets," said Gutherson.

"The Storm started well and we had to make 80 more tackles. We didn't play the game we wanted to."

Arthur is determined for his side to rediscover their winning ways and make the most of their final two matches against the North Queensland Cowboys (away) and Sydney Roosters (home).

"We have plenty to do – the first thing that we have to do, is do it week-in, week-out," said Arthur.
