The competition may only be a week old, but it's fair to say the Holden NRL Women's Premiership has already proven a success.

Over the opening two matches, 26,601 fans turned out to support the new competition.

Some teams were a bit rusty, having not played trial games, but overall the quality was of a high standard and fans were entertained.

After another week of training, expect the standard to go up a notch this weekend.

There was plenty to like from the opening two games and the physicality of the play has to be a highlight. There were plenty of big hits that got the fans on their feet.

The prize for best tackle of the weekend has to go to Annetta Nuuausala – the sister of Rooster Frank-Paul.

With the Warriors defending their own line, the big prop forward came up with a crunching tackle on Roosters lock Zahara Temara. There was an almighty cheer from the ANZ Stadium crowd.

Coming in at a close second was Brisbane winger Julia Robinson's charge towards Jess Sergis.

With ball in hand, Robinson charged down the left edge and her head smashed into Sergis'. Defender Sergis went flying through the air, while Robinson kept on charging towards the line.

Sergis was ruled out of the game with concussion, while Robinson played on with a giant "egg" on her forehead. This just shows the courage of these players.

Sergis and Robinson collide

Remarkably, before this year, Robinson had never played a single game of rugby league in her life. She was a netballer for years and only took up the new sport this year. You can read her story in this week's Big League magazine.

Another great thing about the introduction of the competition are the players' stories. Most of the players have full-time jobs and have made massive sacrifices to be where they are today.

The competition continues this week with the Roosters against the Broncos at Allianz Stadium on Friday evening, before the Dragons face the Warriors on Saturday at ANZ Stadium.

If you get the chance, head out to one of the games and you'll be in for a show.

And if you can't make it, that's okay because every game is being shown live on TV.

This competition is more than just a curtain-raiser.

Experience the excitement of Finals footy this weekend.
