Cooper Cronk spent 14 seasons at Melbourne forming strong bonds and creating a legend but the Storm are adamant there will be no room for sentiment on Sunday night should their old mate defy the odds and take his place in the Roosters line up.
The league world has held its breath all week as Cronk has raced the clock to try and overcome a serious rotator cuff injury and the Storm are well aware of the halfback's recuperative powers.
Asked whether the Roosters could hide Cronk for 80 minutes in a grand final if he does take the field, Storm assistant coach Adam O'Brien was adamant the "short answer is no".
"They can move him one hole wider but at some stage he'll have to come into contact with one of our big guys," said O'Brien, who is leaving the Storm after 11 years to join the Roosters in 2019.

"There's a lot of emotional attachment there with Cooper but he understands as well as anyone that for those 80 minutes we'll go at him."
If Cronk is ruled out, O'Brien said the defending premiers had prepared for several different scenarios.
"Victor Radley has been tossed up as a possibility in the halves so we've done some homework on him," O'Brien said.
"Ryan Matterson and Sean O'Sullivan have spent some time there this season and even Paul Momirovski and Mitch Aubusson have been mentioned this week."
The Storm had their own disruptions earlier in the week with champion fullback Billy Slater's judiciary appearance on Tuesday night but ever since he was cleared they have been focused on sending the 35-year-old out a winner.
"Billy deserves it for what he has done for our game," O'Brien said.
"For the amount of children and spectators that participate and watch our sport because of Billy Slater, he deserves to be on that stage on Sunday.
"We are looking forward to sending him out the right way."
For his part, O'Brien said he remains "totally committed to this group" despite the fact he'll be part of the Roosters team next year.
"It's the hardest think I've ever done to leave the Storm," O'Brien said.
"I'm very close to the coach and I wouldn't leave the Storm for just anyone but moving to another strong club will certainly be beneficial for my career."
