The Wests Tigers are yet to make a call on whether or not Benji Marshall will appear in Saturday's clash against the Sydney Roosters despite being named in the run-on side.

The return of Marshall from a hamstring injury would be ideal timing after his replacement Josh Reynolds suffered a knee injury in their 30-14 victory over the Titans.

However, coach Michael Maguire said if Marshall isn't cleared to play against the Roosters, he has faith in Ryan Matterson to switch into the halves again after covering for Reynolds last week.

"We will assess him [Marshall] over the next two days," Maguire said.

"I'm not going to take any risks but at the moment I'm pretty keen to see Benji running around. But as a group we'll prepare for everything.

"Matto [Matterson] came in last week and done a really good job for us. I thought Brooksy [Luke Brooks] really stood up as well and having Robbie Farah there was a handy one to lead us around the park - those boys really gelled together once we had that mishap with Josh."

Roosters v Wests Tigers - Round 8

Another veteran Kiwi International Russell Packer is also struggling to make the cut for different reasons - the prop was dropped for their round 7 match against the Titans due to his recent poor form.

Maguire said he'd spoken to the 29-year-old as to why he made the tough decision to sit out their most experienced forward and told him what he needs to do to regain selection into the side.

"I've had many conversations with him around performance," Maguire said.

"He know what he needs to do within his game and he's working hard on that in the background.

"There's areas in his game which I've asked him to focus on and if he achieves that he finds his way back in."

Despite the Roosters chasing their seventh consecutive victory, Maguire said his side's focus isn’t on the competition leaders but rather developing their own continuity.

After a devastating 51-6 loss to the Eels two weeks ago, Maguire said it was important for the Tigers to build on the camaraderie they showed in their convincing win over the Titans.

"We have to work really hard on our consistency," he said.

"And that’s working hard with each individual and making sure that they can find their best game each week. That's the best challenge of coaching, being able to turn up and do it week in week out - that's what our game demands.

"Over the last couple of weeks, we had one fairly blow out score but it was obvious in that game that were working on our own.

"We turned that around in a week and we showed some really good form - we grabbed momentum by everyone working together."
