The experts delivered their verdict, now NRL fans' votes on who they think should be in the Team of the Decade have been tallied and their final 17 differs significantly from the legends line-up.
More than 28,000 fans cast 235,468 votes when invited to name their best team of the past 10 years in response to the squad of an all-star judging panel assembled by jetwinvip.com which was announced on Wednesday, August 21.
The judging panel included Immortals Mal Meninga, Andrew Johns, Wally Lewis and Bob Fulton, as well as premiership-winning coaches Phil Gould, Craig Bellamy, Trent Robinson and Ricky Stuart, plus Hall of Famers Peter Sterling, Darren Lockyer, Danny Buderus and Laurie Daley.
The fans' verdict differed from the judgment of some of the game's greatest names in four of the nine positional groups.
Parramatta flyer Semi Radradra edged out Brett Morris for the second wing spot opposite fellow Eel Jarryd Hayne and Jamie Lyon got the fan nod over Justin Hodges (who also finished behind a current-day player) in the centres alongside clear No.1 Greg Inglis.
Sonny Bill Williams was a runaway winner of the second-rower category and takes his place beside Boyd Cordner while Sam Burgess claimed top spot in voting for prop, relegating Matt Scott to third place behind Petero Civoniceva.
The fans' promotion of legends bench players Williams and Lyon to the starting 13 saw Scott and Darren Lockyer voted into the final two spots in the squad.
