Broncos forward David Fifita has been awarded the captaincy of the Junior Kangaroos after a breakout NRL season with Brisbane.

The 19-year-old second-rower, who played in all three State of Origin matches for Queensland this year and scored seven tries in 24 NRL matches, was selected to lead a star-studded under-23 line-up featuring the likes of Kalyn Ponga, Angus Crichton, Victory Radley and Ryan Papenhuyzen.

Storm halfback Brodie Croft has been made the team's vice captain.

Fifita was one of three Australians selected in the World Cup 9s men's team of the tournament on the weekend, along with Mitchell Moses and Josh Addo-Carr.
