Representative star Latrell Mitchell confirmed his departure from the Sydney Roosters with an Instagram post on Friday.
The Roosters announced on Monday that Mitchell had been formally released from the final year of his contract.
The club thanked him for his services from 2014 to 2019.
"Firstly I want to thank @sydneyroosters for everything they have done for me an [sic] my family," Mitchell wrote in his post.
"I can not describe the way I feel right now but just wanted to let everyone know involved in my career through my stint here, I am so very grateful for you all.
"To the fans, thanks you ! Wouldn't be a game without you.
"Humbled to be able to play with such a rich history club didn't think as a Country boy I'd be able to transition to the city but roosters made that possible.
"To the boys !! I love yas. Playing along side of you all was something I’'ll hold close to my heart.
"Nothing has been made official as of yet. But my stay at the roosters has come to an end. On to the next chapter where ever that may be."
Media reports have linked the 22-year-old to South Sydney, however, there has been no official statement from the Rabbitohs.
Debuting in 2016 after coming through the club's junior ranks, Mitchell played 96 NRL games for the Tricolours and was an integral part of their premiership wins in 2018 and '19.
He represented NSW and Australia four times apiece as a Rooster.
