Stamping it out: Kelly joins chorus to end racism

Proud Bundjalung man Brian Kelly has joined the chorus of support to end racism in rugby league, speaking out on the eve of next weekend's Indigenous Round.

Helping unveil the Titans' 2023 jersey he and his club will wear in Round 12 against the Canterbury Bulldogs, the Gold Coast centre made an impassioned plea for continued education across communities to prevent discrimination in the game he plays and loves after several racial abuse incidents marred the competition earlier this season.

"It definitely needs to be stamped out," Kelly said.

"The more we speak up about it, come together and educate one another, the better.

"Personally for myself, I haven't had too many issues with it off the field, but if any of the boys or anyone goes through it, we all stand up together and back one another.

"We're all one and we always have each others' backs.

"It's shown a lot this year and we're trying to stamp it out of the game."

Whilst the Northern Rivers representative shared he hasn't been impacted on the field personally, the 132-gamer spoke on the impact racial vilification has on not just individuals, but on their family, friends and community as well - most notably referencing the recent abuse towards South Sydney fullback Latrell Mitchell and the effect that has.

"I love Latrell... he's a wonderful fella and a legend of a bloke," Kelly said.

"He obviously cops a lot and it doesn't just affect him but it affects his family and everyone around him. 

"The more we speak up about it, the better it's going to be."

Ready to line up in his eighth game for the Titans this season when he travels south to face the Knights, the 26-year-old is relishing his fine form upon bringing up his 50th NRL try at the weekend.
