Queensland

Exciting fullback Reece Walsh will make his Origin debut alongside Broncos teammates Selwyn Cobbo, Patrick Carrigan and Thomas Flegler in Game One in Adelaide. Titans enforcer David Fifita is back in the side for the first time since Game 2, 2021 while Storm skipper Christian Welch is back in the 19-man squad after missing last year's series through injury. Dolphins enforcer Felise Kaufusi has missed selection as he faces suspension for a high tackle on Welch in Round 12. Kaufusi's Dolphins teammate Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow will partner experienced Cowboy Val Holmes in the centres. Dragons skipper Ben Hunt will start at hooker with Storm star Harry Grant coming from the bench. The side will be led by Manly's Daly Cherry-Evans in his 20th Origin match. Thomas Dearden is 18th Man and Welch is the fresh reserve.

New South Wales

The Blues have named three debutants with Raider Hudson Young, Bulldog Tevita Pangai Junior and Shark Nicho Hynes set to make their first Origin appearance. Bulldogs flyer Josh Addo-Carr returns on the wing after being overlooked last year while Tom Trbojevic and Latrell Mitchell are reunited in the centres after both missed the 2022 series. Panthers playmakers Nathan Cleary and Jarome Luai will steer the ship in the halves and are joined by teammates Isaah Yeo, Brian To'o and Liam Martin. Wests Tigers hooker Apisai Koroisau got the nod ahead of Damien Cook for the hotly contested No.9 jersey. The absence of Jake Trbojevic with a calf injury has opened the door for Pangai Junior while injury has also struck Rabbitohs centre Campbell Graham, who was named 18th Man but withdrew on Monday with a sternum injury. Panther Stephen Crichton is the new 18th Man and Wests Tigers enforcer Stefano Utoikamanu is the fresh reserve.

Stat Attack

Since Origin moved to a three-game series in 1982 there have been just seven series clean sweeps. The Blues have enjoyed three sweeps – in 1986 under Wayne Pearce's captaincy and twice under Brad Fittler, in 1996 and 2000. The Maroons have achieved the feat four times – in 1988 and '89 under 'The King' Wally Lewis, 1995 with Trevor Gillmeister at the helm and 2010 with Darren Lockyer leading the way.
