Hughes caps off 2024 as Player of the Year

Melbourne Storm half-back and Dally M Medallist, Jahrome Hughes, has capped off a stellar season winning the Cameron Smith Player of the Year Award for 2024.

Hughes received the award at the Melbourne Storm Player of the Year Awards presented by RedZed, held at the Crown Palladium Room this evening.

The award caps off a remarkable season for Hughes having already won the Dally M Medal, named as the Dally M Half-Back of the year, RLPA Players’ Champion and being selected in the New Zealand Kiwis’ team for the 2024 Pacific Championships.

Hughes put a gap in the votes toward the back end of the season to eventually win his second Cameron Smith Player of the Year Award with 37 votes, ahead of Harry Grant (19), Trent Loiero (18) and Will Warbrick (16), last winning the award in 2021.

Storm Captain, Harry Grant, was named Best Forward of the Year adding to his Dally M Hooker of the Year Award and being named as Kangaroos Vice-Captain for the upcoming Pacific Championships.

Will Warbrick was recognised as the Storm Best Back of the Year for the second consecutive year, the same day he was named to debut in the New Zealand Kiwis’ team to play in the 2024 Pacific Championships.

Following his selection in the QLD Origin squad, Trent Loiero continued his rise as one of the most damaging players in the game being awarded the Most Improved Player Award, and it was no surprise to see Xavier Coates walk away with the Best Try Award after his last-minute acrobatic try against the Warriors at AAMI Park.

Having debuted last season, Jack Howarth, earned himself a regular start in the team for the second half of the 2024 year and rewarded the Billy Slater Rookie of the Year Award.
