'Heading in right direction': Luai, Koroisau embrace shared role

Star recruit Jarome Luai has vowed to help lead Wests Tigers towards the top after being appointed co-captain with Api Koroisau for the upcoming season.

Luai, who joined the club after winning four consecutive NRL premierships with Penrith, has had leadership experience at international level and is a senior member of the NSW State of Origin team.

The 28-year-old playmaker captained Toa Samoa on last year's tour to England and was a member of the Blues leadership group during last year's successful Origin series.

“Being named captain of the Wests Tigers with Api is an honour I don’t take lightly,” Luai said.

“Api has set an incredible standard as a leader, and I’m excited to work alongside him again and contribute to building something special here.

“I am grateful to the coaching staff for giving me this opportunity and I want to make my family, the team, our members and sponsors proud.”

Koroisau, a three-time NRL premiership winner with South Sydney (2014) and Penrith (2021, 2022), has provided outstanding leadership to the squad since joining Wests Tigers in 2023.

After captaining the team for the past two seasons, Koroisau said he was looking forward to sharing the role with Luai.

“It’s a privilege to captain this club, and to now share that role with Jarome is really exciting,” Koroisau said.

“Over the past two years, I’ve seen firsthand the potential we have, and I’m confident we’re heading in the right direction.

“I’m looking forward to what we can achieve together as a team this season.”

Wests Tigers coach Benji Marshall said he was certain that the two senior leaders of the side would take the team forward in 2025.

“Api has been a phenomenal leader for this club over the past two years, and his respect within the team is second to none,” Marshall said.

“Adding Jarome’s passion and creativity to our leadership structure makes this partnership really exciting.

“Together, they bring a balance of stability and flair that will drive our team forward in 2025."
