After creating triumphant memories in New Zealand as the opposition in recent seasons, Warriors signing Tanah Boyd is hoping to help his side celebrate more wins at his new home.

Moving from the Gold Coast Titans with his young family on a two-year deal, the new dad said he was excited by the challenge of stepping into the halves void left by the retirement of Kiwi legend Shaun Johnson.

“It’s had a big part of it and there was an opportunity there, so definitely jumped at it, but I have still got to prove myself and earn the respect of the players," Boyd said.

"I'm just trying to work as hard as I can and put everything into my training and trials.

“I just want to focus on my strengths and whatever I can bring to the team and if they like that, they'll go with it.

“I'm just focusing on me and what I can bring to the team and just constantly trying to evolve my game and get better each day.

“I'm learning so much so far with Webby [coach Andrew Webster] and it's been a good change and I am learning so much.

“I don't think you can ever replace Shaun, he's a pretty special player and like I was saying, I'll just focus on my strengths and what I can bring to the team and that's the same with all the halves.

“We all have different strengths and whatever they want to go with, we'll back them.

“We're a pretty tight little spine there, so it's been good, I'm enjoying it.”

Webster said the club were impressed by Boyd’s display when playing for the Titans, where he “killed” the Warriors chances with his kicking game.

“He killed us, he kicked us to death,” Webster said of Boyd’s role in the Gold Coast’s Anzac Day win last year.

“When Tanah gets the opportunity and gets in the team, that's going to be a strength.

"He can kick, he can goal kick, he can organise really well, he's tough, he's fit as anything …

“The reason why we wanted Tanah, I always thought he was that kid that was that a star on the way up, debuted at a really young age, big hopes on him and I think halves don't really learn their craft until they're sort of between the 75 to 100 (game) mark, and he'll get close to that in the next couple of years.

“I think he's at a really good stage and getting out of his comfort zone and has come the club.

"He's fitted in really well and really happy with what he's done so far and I think what we saw in him, we'll only seen better things from him.”

Boyd is fighting for a place in the starting line-up for Round 1 alongside other notable contenders including Te Maire Martin, Chanel Harris-Tavita and Luke Metcalf, with Webster saying he was liking what seeing from the group at training as they press their case.

“They have been one of our highlights that’s for sure, the depth we have got there [in the halves],” Webster said.

“We realised we need to create that depth probably every season just as best as we can.

“They're competing really well, they're really composed.

“I see a difference that they're really trying to help each other as well, so they're competing at one minute and then they want each other to get better, so it's really good.”
